I’ve known Porter and Chap from when they worked at various bars and professions in my hometown for well over a decade. Not to mention Chap is my hair brother (have not met many others with hair as thick as ours). When I heard they took over ownership of a cheesesteak joint in downtown I was excited. It’s always a thrilling experience to see your friends go for it and start their own business and I could tell they were committed to making it work. Fast forward a few years later, their business grew large enough for them to move to the Front St. downtown and with the new digs, Chap graciously invited me into their renovation project and proposed the idea of commissioning some art for the place. Having seen some of my bridge creatures artworks, he came with some of his own ideas as well including Michael Jordan (Our hometown hero), Darth Vader, and Rocky Balboa (from Philly). The original bridge creatures (Godzilla, creature from the black lagoon, Stay Puft marshmallow man) came into being by frustration with a former bridge drawing commission (another story) but at this point, I was excited to add to the collection and get some new characters in and we set up to have them ready for the opening day. Check out the install below and see the pieces in person at 21 N. Front Street. Make sure to try the pizza cheesesteak and tell them Johnny sent you.
